MIDDLE-EARTH TIMELINE
Unfinished Tales of Númenor and Middle-earth (1980) is a collection of stories and essays that J.R.R. Tolkien never finished, edited with an introduction, commentary and maps by his son Christopher Tolkien. It was the first big posthumous Tolkien book after The Silmarillion.
The first three parts follow the Ages of Middle-earth. The First Age gives the long version of Tuor's coming to Gondolin and the Narn i Hîn Húrin, the tale of the children of Húrin. The Second Age describes the island of Númenor and its kings, the story of Aldarion and Erendis, and the history of Galadriel and Celeborn. The Third Age tells of the Disaster of the Gladden Fields where Isildur lost the One Ring, Cirion and Eorl and the friendship of Gondor and Rohan, the Quest of Erebor as told by Gandalf, the Hunt for the Ring and the Battles of the Fords of Isen. A last part deals with the Drúedain, the Istari and the palantíri.
Tuor's journey to Gondolin, the kings of Númenor, Isildur's death at the Gladden Fields and Gandalf's own account of the Quest of Erebor: the tales Tolkien left unfinished, edited by Christopher Tolkien.
