Meditations on Middle-earth

Description

Meditations on Middle-earth is a collection of essays edited by the American science fiction writer Karen Haber and illustrated by John Howe. It was first published by St. Martin's Press in October 2001, two months before Peter Jackson's first film.

In it, fantasy authors write about what Tolkien meant to them and to their own work. Contributors include Ursula K. Le Guin, George R. R. Martin, Terry Pratchett, Raymond E. Feist, Orson Scott Card, Robin Hobb, Charles de Lint, Harry Turtledove and Poul Anderson. The book was nominated for the Hugo and Locus awards in 2002, and a British paperback followed from Earthlight the next year.

Synopsis
