MIDDLE-EARTH TIMELINE
Tolkien's Legendarium: Essays on The History of Middle-earth is a collection edited by Verlyn Flieger and Carl F. Hostetter, editor of the linguistic journal Vinyar Tengwar. It was published by Greenwood Press in 2000.
The essays study the twelve volumes of The History of Middle-earth, in which Christopher Tolkien published his father's drafts. They deal with Tolkien's languages, the way his vision changed over time, the shifting place of major characters and the effect of the older mythology on The Lord of the Rings. The book ends with a bibliography of Christopher Tolkien's work by Douglas A. Anderson. It won the Mythopoeic Scholarship Award for Inklings Studies in 2002.
