MIDDLE-EARTH TIMELINE
A Question of Time: J.R.R. Tolkien's Road to Faërie is a study by Verlyn Flieger, published by Kent State University Press in 1997.
Flieger looks at how Tolkien treated time and time travel, in the light of the theory of J. W. Dunne, whose book An Experiment with Time claimed that dreams give access to the past and the future. She studies the use of dreams in the unfinished The Lost Road and The Notion Club Papers, in The Lord of the Rings and in shorter works, and shows a Tolkien critical of his own century rather than a mere escapist. The book won the Mythopoeic Scholarship Award for Inklings Studies in 1998.
