MIDDLE-EARTH TIMELINE
The first full study of Tolkien's art, by Wayne G. Hammond and Christina Scull, two of the main Tolkien scholars, also known for The J.R.R. Tolkien Companion and Guide.
The book reproduces some two hundred of Tolkien's drawings and paintings, many of them never shown before, with a commentary on each period of his work: his early sketches, his visionary pictures, his landscapes for The Silmarillion, his illustrations and dust jacket for The Hobbit, the Father Christmas letters, and his drawings and maps for The Lord of the Rings. It was published in 1995 by HarperCollins in the UK and Houghton Mifflin in the US.
