MIDDLE-EARTH TIMELINE
In 1979, National Public Radio in the United States broadcast a dramatization of The Lord of the Rings produced by The Mind's Eye. It was adapted by Bernard Mayes and produced by Bob Lewis, and runs more than eleven hours in total.
The story follows Frodo Baggins from Bag End to Mount Doom and back to the Shire. Unlike most adaptations it keeps Tom Bombadil, voiced by Bernard Mayes, who also plays Gandalf. James Arrington is Frodo, Lou Bliss is Sam and Gail Chugg is the narrator. The drama was later sold on cassette and CD, the best known American edition coming in a wooden box.
