Tolkien: New Critical Perspectives

Description

Tolkien: New Critical Perspectives is the second essay collection edited by Neil D. Isaacs and Rose A. Zimbardo, published in 1981 by the University Press of Kentucky, thirteen years after their Tolkien and the Critics.

It brings together a new wave of scholars, writing after The Silmarillion had been published. Among the contributors are Verlyn Flieger on Frodo and Aragorn as two kinds of hero, Paul H. Kocher on whether Middle-earth is an imaginary world, and J.S. Ryan on folktale and fairy tale. Several of these essays were later reprinted in Understanding The Lord of the Rings, a selection from both collections published in 2004.

Synopsis

A second collection of essays on Tolkien edited by Isaacs and Zimbardo, with Verlyn Flieger and Paul Kocher among the contributors.
