Hobitit - The Hobbits

Description

Hobitit (The Hobbits) is a Finnish live-action miniseries written and directed by Timo Torikka, broadcast by Yle TV1 in nine half-hour episodes from March 29 to May 24, 1993. It grew out of a stage production by the Ryhmäteatteri company at the Suomenlinna summer theatre, in which Torikka played Pippin.

The series tells The Lord of the Rings as the hobbits lived it. An older Sam recalls the story for young hobbits, and the first episode goes back to the history of the Ring and to Bilbo. Battles and events the hobbits do not witness are left out, as the series follows Frodo and Sam on their way to Mount Doom. Taneli Mäkelä plays Frodo, Pertti Sveholm plays Sam, Kari Väänänen is Gollum and Vesa Vierikko is Gandalf.

Made on a small budget, it was praised for catching the atmosphere and spirit of the book.

Synopsis
