MIDDLE-EARTH TIMELINE
Mr. Bliss is a picture book for children written and drawn by Tolkien. Mr. Bliss, a man known for his very tall hats, buys a motor car and sets off to visit his friends the Dorkinses, collecting a string of mishaps on the way, including a meeting with three bears, Archie, Teddy and Bruno. He also keeps a strange pet, a Girabbit.
Tolkien showed the book to his publisher in the nineteen thirties, but colour printing was too costly at the time. It was finally published by George Allen and Unwin in 1982 as a facsimile of his handwritten and illustrated pages, with the text set in type on the facing pages.
A man with tall hats, a new motor car and three bears: Tolkien's own illustrated picture book for children.
