MIDDLE-EARTH TIMELINE
The Hobbit graphic novel is a comic book adaptation of Tolkien's novel, adapted by Chuck Dixon with Sean Deming and painted by David Wenzel. It was first published by Eclipse Comics in 1989 as three issues, then collected in a single volume in 1990.
Staying very close to the book, it follows Bilbo Baggins and Thorin's company from the unexpected party at Bag End to the riddle game with Gollum, the spiders of Mirkwood, Lake-town and the dragon Smaug. Wenzel's watercolour art made it a favourite of many readers. A revised and expanded edition with new paintings was published by HarperCollins and William Morrow in September 2025.
