MIDDLE-EARTH TIMELINE
The Hobbit is an illustrated text adventure developed by Beam Software and published by Melbourne House in 1982, first for the ZX Spectrum and then for many home computers such as the Commodore 64, BBC Micro and Amstrad CPC.
Players guide Bilbo by typing whole sentences in plain English, thanks to a parser called Inglish that was very advanced for its time. The game runs in real time and its characters act on their own: Gandalf wanders around, Thorin sits down and sings about gold, and goblins can capture you. Many locations come with a drawing. Its freedom made every game different, and it became a landmark of early adventure games.
Type your way from Bag End to Smaug's lair in the classic 1982 text adventure, where Gandalf, Thorin and the goblins live their own lives.
