MIDDLE-EARTH TIMELINE
Robert S. Blackham is a member of the Birmingham Tolkien Strategy Group and vice chair of the Friends of the Shire Country Park, a park in Birmingham named after Tolkien's childhood links with the area. He gives talks on Tolkien in Birmingham and Oxford.
This book looks at the real places that may have inspired Middle-earth, starting with the Birmingham suburbs and the countryside around Sarehole, where the Tolkien family lived from 1896. It is illustrated with old photographs and postcards showing these places as Tolkien knew them, next to present-day views. It was first published by Tempus in 2006, and later by The History Press.
Old photographs and postcards of Birmingham and its countryside, the places of Tolkien's childhood that fed his Middle-earth.
