MIDDLE-EARTH TIMELINE
A short illustrated book by Robert S. Blackham, a member of the Birmingham Tolkien Strategy Group who gives talks on Tolkien in Birmingham and Oxford. It follows Tolkien's life in Oxford from his arrival as a student in 1911 to his death in 1973, using old postcards, maps and photographs.
It visits the places that mattered to him: the Eagle and Child, known as the Bird and Baby, where the Inklings met; the Old Ashmolean building on Broad Street, where he worked on the Oxford English Dictionary; the Botanic Garden opposite Magdalen College; and Wolvercote Cemetery, where he is buried with his wife Edith. It was published by The History Press in 2008.
