MIDDLE-EARTH TIMELINE
Bag End, the home of Bilbo and Frodo Baggins, took its name from a real farm at Dormston in Worcestershire. In the 1920s, some years before Tolkien wrote The Hobbit, it was owned and farmed by his aunt Jane Neave.
In this short book, Andrew H. Morton, co-author of Tolkien's Gedling, tells the history of the farm, looks at Tolkien's family roots in Worcestershire and discusses the origin and meaning of the name Bag End. It includes previously unpublished photographs of the farm from that period and images from local archives. It was published by Brewin Books in 2009.
