A Companion to J. R. R. Tolkien is a large reference volume edited by Stuart D. Lee, a Tolkien scholar at the University of Oxford, and published by Wiley-Blackwell in 2014 in the Blackwell Companions to Literature and Culture series.
Its 600 pages gather chapters by many specialists, among them John Garth, Tom Shippey, Dimitra Fimi, Patrick Curry, Thomas Honegger and Janet Brennan Croft. They cover Tolkien's life, his academic work, his major and minor writings, his sources and languages, and themes such as war or music, as well as adaptations and his place in modern culture.
