Green Suns and Faërie

Description

Green Suns and Faërie: Essays on J.R.R. Tolkien gathers articles written by Verlyn Flieger over many years, some of them never published before. It was published by Kent State University Press in 2012.

The essays cover a wide range of subjects, from Tolkien's idea of the hero to the much discussed last riddle of Bilbo in The Hobbit, and from the making of the legendarium to Tolkien's thoughts on Faërie. The title comes from On Fairy-Stories, where Tolkien defends the power of imagination to make a green sun believable within its own world. The book won the Mythopoeic Scholarship Award for Inklings Studies in 2013.
