Description

Tolkien and Wales: Language, Literature and Identity is a study by Carl Phelpstead, Reader in English literature at Cardiff University. It was published by the University of Wales Press in April 2011.

Phelpstead looks at how Tolkien's love of Wales and of the Welsh language shaped his ideas about language, much of his fiction and his academic work, including some less known texts. He argues that this attachment to Welsh cannot be separated from Tolkien's love of England and his sense of being English. The book won the Mythopoeic Scholarship Award for Inklings Studies in 2012.
