The Art of The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien gathers, for the first time, all the art Tolkien made for The Hobbit. It is edited by Wayne G. Hammond and Christina Scull, the authors of J.R.R. Tolkien: Artist and Illustrator.
It reproduces more than a hundred pictures: sketches, drawings, watercolours, maps and the designs for the dust jacket and binding, several of them unpublished before, each with a commentary on how it was made and how it fits the story. It was published by HarperCollins on 27 October 2011 as a slipcased hardback, ahead of the 75th anniversary of The Hobbit in 2012.
