MIDDLE-EARTH TIMELINE
The Art of The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien is the companion to The Art of The Hobbit, edited again by Wayne G. Hammond and Christina Scull.
While writing The Lord of the Rings, Tolkien often drew what he imagined, from rough sketches in the pages of his drafts to finished pictures, maps and inscriptions in his Elvish and Dwarvish alphabets. The book reproduces these pictures, many of them never published before, with a commentary on each. It was published by HarperCollins on 8 October 2015 as a slipcased hardback, and by Houghton Mifflin in the US a few days later. A new edition followed in 2023.
